Back to School! 4.5 Month Update

Sorry, it's been a long time. It's been something like 4 1/2 months since I returned from Russia, possibly more now as this has sat in my text editor for a week... I've had a really good recovery so far, although summer has offered its challenges with some pretty high temperatures here and there. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been getting a little anxious as going back to work for the new academic year has loomed on the horizon ever closer. Well, that horizon has finally arrived! I have been at work for a day and a half last week and all the mornings this week as I am currently undergoing a phased return whereby I slowly work up to my normal hours.

I'm a teacher who works four days a week. This is a high-stress job that no doubts acted as a trigger in terms of stress towards bringing on my multiple sclerosis. As a result, I am keen to manage going back to work as smoothly as possible so that I get the correct work-life balance and have reduced stress levels.

The video below was recorded before this week. I will add to the video my experiences of this week. I have undoubtedly struggled with keeping my energy levels up, even though I am only working mornings at the immediate moment. Although I am going to bed earlier, I am getting up at 6-6:15, which is really affecting my tiredness later in the day. There is no way around this and I will need to carefully manage my workload as well as expectations I have of myself, and expectations others have of me. The difficulty of working in a team is that others rely on me to do a requisite amount of work at a high level of quality, and to be value for money for my school, this needs to be the scenario. So how do I maintain highest levels of output whilst now being disabled?

Challenges, challenges.

Anywho, here is the video update I posted recently to the tinternets:

Let me know of your experiences of HSCT and returning to work if you have any to share.
